Interior Design Fundamentals

Certificate of Achievement

The Interior Design Fundamentals Certificate provides a curriculum focused on the basic and essential aspects of interior design with an emphasis on practical application in the field at the entry level. The degree provides students the opportunity to combine knowledge and skills acquired to practice professionally as design assistants or to continue on to the Interior Design Professional Certificate for more advanced training. This fundamentals program prepares students for career opportunities in interior design firms, architectural firms, kitchen and bath design firms, retail finishes and furnishings stores, commercial furniture dealerships, and furniture and finish manufacturers at the entry level. Students completing this certificate will be able to demonstrate skills and apply knowledge necessary to achieve entry-level occupation in the professional interior design field.

To be awarded a certificate, a student must:

  1. Complete all the program requirements.
  2. Earn a grade of C (or "P") or better for all required courses.

Upon successful completion of this program a student will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of interior construction, building codes, equipment, materials and furnishings.
  • Perform services relative to interior spaces and the built environment, including study in aesthetics, design process, design analysis, programming, schematics, design development, documentation, project management, and implementation of sustainability and regenerative design principles.
  • Identify, research, and creatively solve problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment.
  • Prepare drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces based on information provided.
