President's Message

A Message from President Dr. Jennifer Taylor-Mendoza

Yes to West!

Welcome to 69ÂÜÀò. I am so excited that you chose WVC as the educational institution to help you realize your full potential. You are joining a college community that is intentional in assisting you in exploring exciting opportunities along your educational journey.

West Valley defies the idea that community colleges are the fallback. Instead, WVC is the breakthrough.

WVC’s state-of-the-art facilities are learning spaces designed to inspire creativity and achievement. We have thoughtfully planned out campus programs and services, so students, faculty, staff, and community feel welcome and ready to engage. And this year we will open our new, modernized Learning Resource Commons.

Education quite literally has the power to move a family out of poverty; it has the power to improve economic potential and status; and it has the potential to establish economic viability and stability within whole communities. I speak from my own personal experience, knowing firsthand the impact community college education has on families.

We are here to serve you, our local communities of Saratoga, Los Gatos, and Campbell—our school districts within these cities, our young adult learners, our seniors, and our future generations of K-12 students enrolled in dual enrollment courses. It is also a pleasure to host a myriad of non-profit organizations whose additional services support the community.

WVC prides itself on being a premier destination with the highest transfer rates of all Silicon Valley and Bay Area colleges, offering a variety of degree and career education certificate programs. Additionally, we offer recreational and self-development classes for credit or non-credit. West Valley offers a wide array of options in various modalities—online, in-person, or a combination of both. We support your success in a variety of ways.

At West Valley, we believe that when we grow together, we go further. By working side by side with our community, we can create immense opportunities for lasting success on and o? campus.

Additionally, through deep and nuanced layers of support, many of which are rare in community colleges and even higher education, WVC works to remove the common barriers that cause students to fall behind. WVC truly sets itself apart with high-touch academics and bold extracurricular opportunities. As a college and district, students have free tuition, free childcare services, free clothes, free books, free technology, free parking, and in fall 2025 free meals with our free dining initiative.

And our three identity centers, the African American/Black Center, El Centro, and the Pride Center provide physical spaces and student-run programs to foster community, explore social issues, and promote inclusivity and empowerment for students of diverse backgrounds. With twelve intercollegiate sports, you can usually catch a game and cheer on your fellow Vikings. And, as you may have noticed, our campus is a beautiful place to be. I hope WVC inspires your learning and serves as a haven amid the fast-paced world we live in.

Again, welcome to the West Valley Viking family! We change the future together.
