ENGL 048H: Honors Introduction to Shakespeare

Course Description

Honors Introduction of Shakespeare uses the pedagogical methods common to all Honors courses: writing-intensive, collaborative, and experiential instruction. As an honors course, there is a focus on analytical writing and exploring the field through reading primary source research. This course provides overviews of the historical and political events of Shakespeare’s age, the religious and philosophical ideas of the Early Modern period, and modern critical approaches to Shakespeare’s works. In addition, students in this course have the opportunity to evaluate and critically analyze a selection of Shakespeare’s major plays and poetry.
