Course Description
This course covers a comprehensive introduction to the understanding of the corrections system in the U.S. Emphasis is on its origin and evolution, philosophies of corrections, perspectives on sentencing, offender rights, and legal issues. The course also covers alternatives to incarceration, including community corrections, probation and parole. The course addresses adult, juvenile and special needs offenders. Students have an opportunity to understand the profession of corrections specialists, both staff and administration, and preview special challenges for the future of corrections.
